Both men and women are affected by hair loss or baldness.

There are several conditions of hair loss:

Androgenetic alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is most common in both men and women. The cause is a hormonal disturbance. There is an overproduction of the hormone androgen which causes hair loss.

Androgenetic alopecia affects 70% of men and can occur from the age of 18, but generally begins at 40.

Androgenetic alopecia is recognized because it starts with a loss of hair at the temples and then at the top of the head. The crown above the nape of the neck will not be affected by baldness, this area is called "the eternal zone".

For women, the hair will be thinner and you can see the skull through the hair.

Seborrheic alopecia

This condition also affects many men and women and is very similar to androgenetic alopecia but the cause is different.

There is hair loss due to excess sebum production which clogs the follicles and eventually kills the hair.

Seborrheic alopecia can be accompanied by side effects such as oily hair and scalp, loss of hair volume, irritation, tingling and dandruff...

Scarring alopecia

This condition is recognizable by irregular hair loss, like alopecia, which can affect any area of the head.

Causes of scarring alopecia: Viral, infectious or bacterial diseases. Mycosis, an auto-immune reaction following a disease, external aggressions.

Other causes of hair loss

The change of season: There is a greater loss of hair in the period from autumn to winter.

Stress: Too much stress can cause hair loss, especially in women. Often due to post-traumatic stress, stress stimulates the production of androgenic hormones, which are responsible for hair loss.

Hormones: Menopause, micropolycystic ovary syndrome, hypo- or hyperthyroidism, pituitary.

Trichotillomania: It is an obsessive-compulsive disorder that is pulling out hair.

Dietary deficiencies: Deficiencies in vitamins and minerals prevent the capillary system from functioning properly.

Poor hair care: Hairstyles such as braids and buns that are too tight, as well as harsh products or chemicals can kill hair.
